DESCRIPTION
Manu National Park is a biosphere reserve located in Madre de Dios and Cuzco, coveringan area of 1716295 hectares (4.3 million acres), Peru’s is largest protected natural area and one of the largest on the planet, with a biological mega diversity that is unparalleled.
The park protects all the ecological zones that exist in the Amazon basin, covering an altitudinal gradient between 150 and 4200 meters above sea level. Because of this variety, its biodiversity is one of the most appreciated in the world. Overall, more than 15,000 species of plants are found in the park, and up to 250 varieties of trees have been found in a single hectare. The reserve is home to more than 800 species of birds, including the harpy eagle, jabiru, jungle goose and cock of the rocks; over 200 species of mammals such as the yellow - tailed choro monkey, spider monkey, giant river otter, jaguar, ocelot, spectacled bear, huemal deer and over 100 species of bats. More than 2000 species and unique varieties of plants and a number of native communities also live in this area with their own traditions, language and culture.
ITINERARY
Day 01: Monkey Island (Isla de los Monos)
AWe’ll arrive in Puerto Maldonado, Peru’s capital of biodiversity. Following pickup at the airport, our trip begins with a tour of the city by private bus. We’ll continue to Capitanía, a small river port, where we’ll board a motorized boat to cross the Madre de Dios River. As the trip progresses, we’ll become immersed in the natural surroundings of the jungle while observing the ronsoco, caimans, turtles, herons, cormorants and other animal species. We’ll arrive at the Ecoamazonia Lodge and enjoy an exquisite welcome drink. Then, we’ll settle into our bungalows and have lunch.
In the afternoon, accompanied by our specialized guide, we’ll visit MONKEY ISLAND, a unique place at the heart of the Madre de Dios River—just 5 minutes from the lodge. Along the way, we’ll take in the extraordinary landscapes and exuberant flora that are home to a variety of monkey species. These monkey species include maquisapas, capuchins, lion monkeys, puffins and cotos, along with other animal species like the coati, sloth, and a great diversity of birds. We’ll complete our visit of the island while enjoying the sunset—the most impressive moment of any day in the jungle. Then, we’ll return to the lodge to end the day with a pleasant dinner…Return to Lodge.
Day 02: COLLPA DE GUACAMAYOS (MACAW LICK)
After an early breakfast, we’ll set off on a one-day boat trip (with lunch on board) to GUACAMAYOS’ LICK or Collpa. On our way along the Tambopata River, we’ll observe animals like caimans, turtles and a variety of birds. Having arrived at Collpa, we’ll setup camp and enjoy dinner.
Day 03: COLLPA DE GUACAMAYOS (MACAW LICK)
Very early, we’ll visit a hidden shelter to observe the cave and wait for the arrival of parrots, parakeets and guacamayos (aras). There, we’ll also have the opportunity to see the sunrise. We’ll return to our campsite for breakfast. Then, we’ll board our motorized river boat to head downstream to the Ecoamazonia Lodge. We’ll enjoy lunch on board. After our arrival at the lodge we’ll enjoy an evening dinner
Day 04: “Cocha Perdida” (Lost Lake)
After breakfast, we’ll begin an adventure through the virgin forest, accompanied by our local guide as we explore deep into the jungle to reach the LOST COCHA (COCHA PERDIDA). The Lost Lake constitutes a refuge and feeding ecosystem for a tremendous diversity of animals. There, we’ll have the opportunity to observe otters, caimans, turtles, “sachavacas”, birds of every color, the majestic jaguar and a variety of fish. This unique area, as it belongs to the Ecoamazonia Reserve, remains utterly intact, with large marshes and natural springs. We’ll ascend to and extraordinary vantage point, from which we’ll have a chance to observe the magical jungle, then taking a pleasant canoe ride around the lake. We’ll return to the lodge for lunch and in the afternoon, we offer an optional visit to the botanical gardens. If you’d rather relax, you can enjoy the Amazonian Pool. We’ll end the day with a pleasant dinner.
Day 05: Breakfast and Transfer to Puerto Maldonado Airport.

- Insect repellent (with at least 25% 'deet') and after bite

- Water bottle (with water for the bus ride into Manu)

- Money for soft drinks or beers and handicrafts at the Boca Manu landings strip
